Pastor Andy finishes our series through 1 Corinthians with the final chapter. The Apostle Paul, who wrote the letter, concludes with several personal comments and parting thoughts. What we can see clearly is that church isn’t just a non-profit organization, a corporation selling Jesus as a product, or an entertainment agency. Church isn’t business, it’s personal—it’s a community, a family.
What does the Bible say about our physical bodies as it relates to Jesus’ return? Is heaven a place where our spirits are forever separated from our bodies? In this message, Ryan Horrisberger, one of our elders, examines 1 Corinthians 15:12-58 where we see that these are questions the early church has wrestled with. The Bible it turns out, is very clear on the subject, and the apostle Paul writes strongly to the believers in Corinth about how they should understand the resurrection of the dead.
Beau Martin continues the “This is Church” series by preaching on 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. In the passage, the Apostle Paul warns the Corinthians not to believe in a gospel other than this: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. In order to remember our “first love”, we take a look at how this simple gospel message was told, and foretold, “according to the Scriptures.”
Pastor Andy preaches through 1 Corinthians 14:26-40 about what is fitting for church. When the church gathers, what should our gatherings look like? What should the character of our meetings be? How does our worship reflect the character of the God we worship? How can we be a Spirit-filled church? And what does this mean for LakeView as we move forward?
What is speaking in tongues? And what is prophecy? Why does the Bible say that prophecy is more beneficial in church than tongues if both are from the Holy Spirit? And what does this supernatural stuff have to do with us today? These are the questions we consider as Pastor Andy continues our series through 1 Corinthians, This is Church.
Pastor Andy continues the series through 1 Corinthians with one of most all-time well-loved passages of Scripture in history: 1 Corinthians 13, the “love” chapter. We’ll see that this passage isn’t about marriage, but rather about the pathway to spiritual greatness. Why is love the most excellent path to true spirituality? Listen and find out!
"The church is the Body of Christ." Those words are so familiar, almost too familiar, we sometimes forget the significance of them. As Pastor Andy continues our series through 1 Corinthians, This is Church, we’ll see that just as one Holy Spirit manifests His power through many different gifts, so the one Body of Christ is formed from many different parts, and the church is made up of many different people… but all according to the will and plan of God.
What does it mean to be spiritual? What is true spirituality from the Holy Spirit if God? How do you know what is of the Holy Spirit and what isn’t? These are the questions we tackle as Pastor Andy continues our series through 1 Corinthians.
In 1 Corinthians 11:17-34, Paul admonishes the Corinthian church for the divisions in the church and the way they are handling the Lord’s Supper. Mike Moll shares that communion is a sign of our continued walk with and fellowship with Jesus, and also discusses the role that baptism and good works have in being evidence of and completing our faith.
Pastor Andy kicks off our summer sermon series through the end of 1 Corinthians with one of the weirdest, most debated, most difficult to understand passages in the entire New Testament! As we study 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, we’ll see that it’s not so much about what role women should have in the church, but rather how women and men should go about fulfilling the role and ministry God has given to them.
